San Francisco in 1968

In the spring of 1968, Dad went to San Francisco and stayed at the Manx Hotel, not too far from Union Square, which is shown in the next picture.  This hotel seems to have vanished - maybe due to construction.
Union square is the heart of the downtown shopping district and there is parking below the park.

If you walk to the top of the hill, you see the imposing sight of Alcatraz out in the bay.  It is visible from many of the hills of San Francisco.
About a block from the hotel was Grant Street, which runs through Chinatown.  Some Chinese signs may be seen in the photo.

The storefronts had many interesting items from the Far East.
The Empress of China was a prominent structure in Chinatown.
