In August of
2010 we took a Holland American Cruise on the Eurodam from
Holland to New York City. The route is seen above from the top of
the world. We left Amsterdam and had stops in Edinburgh,
Scotland, Orkney Islands, Scotland, Torshavn, Faroe Islands,
Reykjavik, Iceland, Qaqortoq, Greenland, St. Anthony, Newfoundland, St.
John's, Newfoundland and New York City. The itinerary was changed
a bit toward the end due to hurricane Earl. The white line on the
map traces the route of the ship. (Map from Google Earth)
|When we arrived in
Amsterdam, there was a big celebration of sailing ships in the city, so
the ship was docked outside the city at a container ship dock.
But from our stateroom on the tenth deck (or floor) we could watch the
parade of sailing vessels which passed by all afternoon.
|These vessels were on the
many canals going through Holland and you can see that the ground is
quite flat and not much above the water level. The ships are all
decorated and loaded with people.
